Kelley Construction delivered the foundations and bridges for a 16-inch pipeline crossing over the Lost River in southern Indiana, completing the work in about three months across two remote riverbank sites.
The setting demanded more than standard execution. Crews worked through private property and wooded terrain with limited cell service, on a river prone to flooding after heavy rain. Kelley kept the schedule on track by running two crews on opposite banks at the same time.
Self-performing the civil and structural scope, Kelley excavated 380 cubic yards, installed 14 tons of rebar, and placed more than 260 cubic yards of concrete to build pile caps and abutments up to 20 feet tall. Crews also completed 1.5 acres of site work before setting two prefabricated pipe bridges with 155-ton and 550-ton cranes, coordinated with a state highway lane closure.
With each bridge landing on abutments built from opposite sides of the river, precision mattered at every step. Through tight layout control, strong safety leadership, and close coordination with the owner and subcontractors, Kelley delivered a complex crossing in a challenging environment.
